Saturday June 4, 2022 Reminders and Save the Dates
Our first two weeks have been great. Thank you everyone for helping set up / take down nets, helping out on the beginner court, and for keeping everything fun for everyone.
Reminders:
Save the Dates:
We are pretty excited that we can re-implement the other fun things our club has been known for. Your Social Committee has been hard at work, and we would like to advise you to “Save the Date” for the following club events:
Wednesday, June 22 (rain date June 24) - Dine in the Park
- you can find the menu at https://www.yfuhdc.ca/2022-menu
- our provider is willing to do a veggie burger, but you must let us know before June 15 by replying to this email!
- be sure to bring a chair, as we eat there at the courts
- food service will begin around 11:30, and end around 12:30
Wednesday, July 13 (rain date July 15) - Dine in the Park
- same provider, same set up
Friday, Aug 12 (rain date Aug 19) - TGIF!
- this will be at the MacKinnon Brothers site (just up the road)
- there will be a bbq truck set up there, not to mention the outdoor bar.
Saturday, Sept 10 (rain date Set 17) - Members only Fun Tournament
- open to all members, regardless of skill level - the focus will be to have fun
- sign up as an individual - you will have a different partner each match
- mornings will be Men’s and Women’s Doubles, afternoon will be Mixed Doubles
Friday, Oct 7 - Annual Dinner / Dance
- new venue this year - Camden Braes Golf & Country Club
- this event is primarily for members, but obviously you can bring your significant other, even if they are not a member
More details will be forthcoming as we get closer to each date.

Reminders:
- As a reminder, we will not be notifying you if the courts are wet. However, if you have not noticed, there is a weather app on the home screen of our website. Regardless, if you come to play and the weather is "iffy", please know that we may not have the shed open right away, so please bring your own ball, and be careful!
- We have started designating a couple of courts as “Competitive”, typically not before 10 am. As a reminder, everyone is welcome to play on a Competitive Court, but know that the better players will not hold back, as they should during “Social Play”. When we start the Competitive Courts, we will split up the paddle racks and use one for the Competitive courts.

Monday May 23, 2022 Upcoming Events
Well, we survived Opening Day. What a great turnout. I want to thank everyone who helped us set up nets, take them down, and making it a great morning. Thank you.
We are now announcing an introductory clinic Thursday, May 26, starting at 6:00 pm. It is designed for folks who have not played before, but anyone who wants a refresher on the basic rules are welcome. We are also opening this up to non-members, so if you know someone who wants to try the sport before joining the club, please let them know. But anyone who is interested must sign up by responding to this email, so we can manage the numbers. We only have a handful of loaner paddles, so if you can borrow one, please do.
There are some other upcoming events that we want to let you know about, so you can save the date on your calendar. And more events are being planned!
May 28 - the deadline for tee shirt orders has been extended to this Saturday.
June 22 - Dine in the Park (rain date June 24)
For those of you who are not familiar with these very popular events, we will have a food truck come to the courts around 11:30 for people to enjoy a lunch with their fellow pickleball players, right there in the park.
July 10 - Charity fun tournament (rain date July 17)
This is not a club event, but we are supporting it. The funds raised will go to the Alzheimers Society of KFLA. The format will be such that you sign up as an individual, as you will have a different partner in each game that you play. See the attached flyer.

Friday May 20, 2022 Opening Day Reminders
Opening Day is right around the corner! This email is designed to provide helpful reminders about what to expect.
Remember to wear your name tag, say hello to old friends, and get to know new friends. Paddles up!
Opening Day is right around the corner! This email is designed to provide helpful reminders about what to expect.
- Club play starts Monday at 8:30 am, and ends at 12:30 pm. The weekly hours are posted on the website.
- When you come, please remember not to park in the St. John’s Hall parking lot across the street. It is private property. Safely park fully on to the shoulder of Church Rd, or on the grass at the back of the fire department parking lot.
- We will maintain our policy of not being inside the fenced in area unless you are playing or setting up nets. Please do not put your chairs inside the fence.
- There will be someone from the Executive Committee there to help things run as smoothly as possible, but as always, your cooperation and help with things like setting up nets and taking down will be appreciated.
- The Executive Committee are easy to spot - they will be wearing bright red tee shirts (unless it is laundry day)
- As a reminder, there will be assistance available for anyone who has not yet completed the registration process. Just bring your credit card.
- The Treasurer will be there taking t-shirt orders, and will give out name tags to those who ordered them. She will also have the label maker so you can add your name to your paddle and/or your name tag.
- We will begin the season offering social play. Please play accordingly. We will introduce competitive play the following week.
- Please use the paddle boards as the means to fairly wait your turn to play, and to help “mix it up”. The paddle boards are located on the outside of the fence.
- And in case you forgot, the "2 on / 2 off" system works like this: For the first match only, the winners stay on and split up, and the losers return their paddles to the back of the paddle board. For every game after that, after you have played two games, win or lose, you go off and let someone else have a turn.
- The only exception to regular social play is that, depending on demand, one or two courts will be reserved for beginners. If you are interested in helping newer players learn or remember the rules and the basics of how to play, please send us an email.
- If you are new to the club, please feel free to ask a member of the Executive Committee to help you get started.
- Your Executive Committee: Anna Salmon, Judy Janzen, Mike Mountenay, Janice Clapp and Tim Salmon will be there throughout the week. Be sure to say hello!
Remember to wear your name tag, say hello to old friends, and get to know new friends. Paddles up!
Wednesday May 11, 2022 Registration Summer 2022
Members,
First of all, we welcome and thank our newest member of the Executive Committee - Janice Clapp.
We are also happy to announce that Bath Pickleball Club registration for 2022 is now open. Be aware that we have an entirely new process. It might take a little bit of time this year, but for future years it will be pretty quick. As a reminder, opening day will be May 23, starting at 8:30 am.
Bath Pickleball Club has decided to move to the Pickleball Canada platform. What this means for you as a member is that you must also be a member of Pickleball Canada and Pickleball Ontario. There is a cost for this, but it is mostly offset by the club no longer needing to purchase 3rd party insurance. The total cost will depend on if you are already a member of either organization, but it is basically $20 for our club, plus $10 for Pickleball Canada, plus $10 for Pickleball Ontario, plus fees, totalling just over $42. So if you are already a current member of either organization, you won't have to pay that portion.
Instructions to register (3 options to start and then see more hints below):
Go to https://pickleballcanada.org/
Option 1: You have never been a member of Pickleball Canada
Option 2: You used to be a member of Pickleball Canada, but have not renewed yet for 2022
Option 3: You are a current member of Pickleball Canada
There is an option to "Opt in to emails". Only select this is you wish to receive emails from Pickleball Canada and Pickleball Ontario. The Bath Pickleball Club will continue to use our existing email system to communicate with our members for a while.
Please note your “Region” is “4 - Central East”.
And if you are or have been a member of more than one club, simply go to “My Profile” and select which club you wish to have as your home club.
Of course, if you still have your name tag you do not need to purchase another one, but we do encourage those who do not have one to get one.
And lastly, if you have any questions, just respond to this email. Or, if anyone needs in-person assistance with any of this, let us know and someone will be at the courts to assist you on Monday, May 23 (Opening Day) from 9 am to 10 am.
If you know of anyone interested in joining Bath Pickleball for the first time, please feel free to share this email with them.
Thank you all for your patience.

Friday July 23, 2021 Paddleboard Etiquette Clarification
The EC has been asked to clarify how the paddleboard works. We use the paddleboard system to mix up the membership to enhance friendship and camaraderie.
The concept is:
The EC has been asked to clarify how the paddleboard works. We use the paddleboard system to mix up the membership to enhance friendship and camaraderie.
The concept is:
- At the start of the session (say 8:30 am) at the end of the very first game, the winners stay on and the losers go off and put their paddles in the paddleboard.
- After that, players stay on for a total of two games whether they win or lose and then they go off.
- If you come after the start, simply put your paddle in the paddleboard and when you go on the courts to play, you will play two games (win or lose) and then you come off.
- If you want to play with a friend, wait for them to come off and then put your paddles up in the paddleboard. It is bad etiquette to jump the queue.
- Finally, we use our common sense and if nobody is waiting to play then it is not necessary to come off.

SATURDAY, JULY 3, 2021 OPENING DAY : HELPFUL REMINDERS
Opening Day is right around the corner! This email is designed to provide helpful reminders about protocols, and to describe the format of play we will have, at least initially.
Remember to wear your name tag, say hello to old friends, get to know new friends, and help keep this club the friendliest social club that happens to play pickleball!
Opening Day is right around the corner! This email is designed to provide helpful reminders about protocols, and to describe the format of play we will have, at least initially.
- When you come, please remember not to park in the St. John’s Hall parking lot. It is private property. Safely park fully on to the shoulder of Church Rd, or on the grass at the back of the fire department parking lot.
- Despite many folks being fully vaccinated, we still have to respect COVID protocols. While there is no limit to the number of courts we can use, the township requires that only people playing can be inside the fence. As you rotate off the courts, please exit the fenced in area. Do not put your chairs inside the fence. And while you are sitting and socializing outside the fence, please maintain a 2m distance from anyone not in your household.
- There will be someone from the Executive Committee there to help things run as smoothly as possible, but as always, your cooperation and help with things like setting up nets and taking down will be appreciated.
- We will begin the season offering social play. We will introduce competitive play soon, but not right away. Please use the paddle boards as the means to fairly wait your turn to play, and to help “mix it up”. The paddle boards will be located on the outside of the fence

FRIDAY JULY 2, 2021 OPENING DAY INFORMATION
This email will outline what you need to know to register for our 2021 Outdoor Season
- Opening Day is set for Monday, July 12 at 9:00 am. The alternative rain date is Wednesday 14 July at 9:00 am.
- Hours of operation this year are Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday 8:30 am to 12:30 am. Monday night, Tuesday night, Thursday night 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Our season will run until the end of September.
- Annual fees are unchanged - $25 and $7 for the mandatory name tag and a nonmember drop-in fee of $5. In order to play, you must have paid the annual fee and signed the “Registration and Waiver Form”.
- You can download the "Registration and Waiver" form from www.bathpickleball.ca and it contains instructions on how payment can be made. Every member must fill out the form and submit it prior to playing during club hours
- Registration can be done Mon/Wed/Fri during the week of July 12, from 9 am to noon. You may also register early in person at the courts Monday 5 July from 10:30 am to 12:00 and Saturday 10 July from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. Look for Anna Salmon or Judy Janzen.
- As a reminder, we would like you to wear your name tag when you come to play during club hours, so if you don’t have one or have lost it, please purchase a new one as you register. The purpose of wearing the name tag is that it is your membership card and will eliminate somebody walking up to you and asking for the nonmember drop-in fee. Furthermore, it enhances friendship as you will be able to address everybody by name.
A separate email will be sent as we get closer to Opening Day with more details about the actual play.
May 22, 2021 Latest Club and Covid-19 News
We want to thank you for responding to our survey. We have had over 100 responses and we will summarize the results for you next week.
Many of you are excited about Ontario's reopening, but perhaps a little unclear as to what is happening when. This email will clarify to the best of our ability the initial part of the overall plan and specifically as it relates to our pickleball courts.
Starting at 12:01 am on Saturday, outdoor recreational facilities, like pickleball courts, can be reopened. Loyalist Township has informed us that they will open the courts. The nets are up! However, we are unsure of when the courts will physically be unlocked.
While the Ontario government is allowing these facilities to reopen, there are restrictions, and only singles play is currently allowed.
The complete list of regulations from the province can be found here: https://files.ontario.ca/solgen_oreg344-21_amend82-20_2021-05-20.pdf
Here is the link to the Loyalist Township site: https://www.loyalist.ca/en/living-in-loyalist/covid-19.aspx
The Bath Pickleball Club has not yet started operations, and does not have a permit for use of the courts. Therefore, any use of the courts is public usage. There is no requirement that players need to be residents of Loyalist Township- it is a public facility. Neither BPC nor the Township will be onsite to manage the use of the courts. Public courts mean sharing the courts, so be mindful if others are waiting to use either the tennis court or the pickleball courts.
We urge everyone to read and respect the rules. If a situation arises that you feel needs to be addressed, do not call the Township. The Township has no enforcement authority, and you are directed to call the OPP. The only thing the Township can do is lock up the courts.
Despite these limitations, we hope you find a way to enjoy a little pickleball, but please do so safely, and respectfully of others.
Thank you.

Thank you.
May 24, 2019 "LAST CALL"
This is a "last call" reminder to renew your Bath Pickleball Club membership. On June 1, we will be editing the club membership list and previous members who have not renewed their membership will be deleted from our email and club membership lists. You can always rejoin later. Those players who only play in the winter program are on a separate email list and will receive email announcements when that program restarts.

May 22, 2019 "LADDER PLAY" PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT
The Bath Pickleball Club is pleased to announce the introduction of "Ladder" play for one evening per week. This email explains in detail the program. "Ladder" play will be on certain designated courts while other courts will be for our regular play.
What is "Ladder" Play- This play format attempts to group players of similar skill on the same court, with the intent of providing competitive play at the appropriate level for all participants. At first, this will require the Program Coordinator to “rank” the participants, and place them in groups of 4 or 5. Each group is assigned a court, and each court will have a captain to ensure scores are recorded. The players then play a round robin, where they have different partners and different opponents each game. The Program Coordinator takes the results and makes adjustments to the rankings. Essentially, those players with the highest scores in each group move up, and those with the lowest scores move down. Players MUST commit to playing every week for the four week session. "No shows" are a HUGE problem. As registration will be limited to an initial 12 players for the first four week trial session, the Program Coordinator will hopefully have a number of "spares" that can be called on if it is truly impossible for you to play. In this situation you would need to contact the Program Coordinator.
When do we Play?- The first session is scheduled to start Tuesday May 28 at 6:00pm. Please note that the courts open at approximately 5:30 pm. (Come early to warm up). The initial session (your commitment) is for four (4) weeks on Tuesday evenings.
Whom may Play? This program is open to any gender and any level. The program will be limited to the first 12 club applicants and additional club applicants will be placed on a wait list or a spares list. If we get a lot of applicants we will look at expanding the number of courts available. The initial four week session should be viewed as a trial session to work out the kinks.
How will we communicate with the participants? - Betty Ann Coleman our Membership Coordinator will set up a separate email group for the participants and we will communicate to you via email using the Club email system.
How do I apply? - Reply to this email indicating that you want to play in the "Ladder" program. Your email will be forwarded to the Program Coordinator.
What is the fee? - $0 for Club members.
Who is the Program Coordinator? The Club wishes to thank Tim Salmon for volunteering to be the Program Coordinator for this program. THANKS TIM

May 21, 2019 " SATURDAY COMPETITIVE AT YOUR LEVEL" PROGRAM
The Bath Pickleball is continuing with last years very successful "Saturday Competitive at Your Level" program. The purpose of the program is to allow players with different skill levels to compete and develop at a pace that meets individual goals. To be clear, players at all levels from advanced to newbie are welcome. Mike Zuwerkalow is the Program Coordinator for this event. We sincerely thank Mike for his commitment to pickleball and the Bath Pickleball Club.
There are courts for recreational/social play and other courts for competitive/developmental play. The recreational area functions in the same manner as currently exists i.e. individual members show up, place their paddle in the top rack and wait for their turn to play with other members.
The competitive level courts accommodate foursomes with similar skill levels/interests. Prearranged groups would place their names on the whiteboard and the program coordinator will assign a court as one becomes available. Foursomes could consist of all newbies, or advanced skill level players, or players preparing for tournaments.
The division of courts is driven by the requirement. There is no need to have empty courts with players waiting. Waiting teams/players would cycle through as we currently do. Nobody can exclusively "reserve" a court. When your group finishes the game, let other groups on to play.
If you have any questions or suggestions please feel free to speak to Mike.

May 20, 2019 "COACHES' CLINIC" SEMINAR
The Bath Pickleball Club is offering a "Coaches Clinic" seminar that is open to anyone wanting to learn to coach. You will be taught strategies designed for the beginner to the advanced players. Details are as follows:
Instructor: The instructor is Carl Walkinshaw who has volunteered to run this seminar. Carl is well known in the Club and is in his seventh year giving instruction to players of all levels. In the past winter in Florida, he taught teaching drills two hours per day, five days per week to players of all levels from 2.5 to 5.0. In addition to expanding the Club's coaching talent pool, Carl feels that the participants will also greatly improve their game.
What is covered in the seminar:
- Level 0 to 3.0 Newbies- The basics, explaining the game, serving the ball to playing a game, and importantly keeping up interest for those new to the game.
- Level 3.0 to 5.0- Drills to improve shots and new games to play on the courts to practice specific skills. Third shot drop and ball control, positional play. Strategies to play smart, not hard. When to be on the offence, and when to be on the defence.
Fee - $0.00 for Club members, $20 for non-Club members.
To Register: Respond to this email and it will be forwarded to Carl.
Carls Private Lessons- If you want more instruction (prepping for a tournament or just want to get better) Carl is offering private lessons. The cost is $10 per hour per person with a minimum of four people per lesson. Money well spent! Contact Carl on the courts or by phone 613 354 2957
The Bath Pickleball Club would like to sincerely thank Carl for his unselfish commitment to the Club. Carl has stated "My personal goal is to bring the level of play up for all players in Bath. In my opinion, we have the best club in Eastern Ontario if not all of Ontario."

The purpose of this email is to provide important information to new members and also to serve as a reminder to returning members.
First, to new members, WELCOME. We hope that you enjoy the game and develop many new friends. Here are some important details on how the club operates:
- Our website www.bathpickleball.ca details how the club operates. For example, under the "Menu" the drop-down menu includes topics such as PB Safety and Etiquette, Code of Conduct, Club Bylaws etc. Please be familiar with Code of Conduct and PB Safety and Etiquette.
- We communicate to the membership via email. All important emails are on the website and archived under "Archived Emails" which is the very last item in the menu. Keep scrolling down to find it!
- We request that you wear your name tags. The reason is that it assists in developing new friends if you know their name and they know your name. In addition, it is your membership card and you won't be asked for the $5 daily "drop-in fee."
- Mother nature does not always cooperate. If it is necessary to cancel PB play, we send out a weather email alert 60 minutes prior to the scheduled start of play.
- By separate email, we will be announcing and explaining our program for the summer. In addition to our regular scheduled play, we will be offering; "Coaches Instructional Seminar", "Ladder" play one evening per week, " "Competitive at Your Level Play" on Saturdays, and various social events. Watch your email for the specific announcements and program details.
- Registration week is over. If you wish to renew your membership please contact Anna Salmon (Treasurer) or Betty Ann Coleman (Membership). The website details the information that you need to provide (Summer Registration) and the Fees. If you have not renewed your membership by June 1, you will be removed from the email list and no longer receive emails.
- Players who only play in the winter program will be on our "winter" email list and will receive emails pertaining to that program at the appropriate times.

May 1, 2019 SUMMER 2019 PICKLEBALL SEASON ANNOUNCEMENT
The Executive Committee of the Bath Pickleball Club is very pleased to welcome all returning and new members to our 2019 Outdoor Pickleball season. This will be our best season ever! We try not to send long emails, but we have a lot of information to convey to you so accept our apology but read on!
Really Really Good News: Let's start with some fantastic news. After two years of lobbying, WE ARE GETTING FOUR PERMANENT NETS! Special thanks to Club VP Phil Golland and our "volunteer" Consulting Engineer club member Donald Weir for their help in getting this project approved by the Loyalist Township Council. The Club is committed to a $2500 project capital contribution. More good news, we have secured the $2500 in funding from Kaitlin Homes the developer of Loyalist Estates. The Township has to follow its procurement procedures and the objective is for construction to be completed in 90 days. Did I tell you the other good news - we have doubled the wattage on the lights for night time Pickleball! Now it will be easier to swat the mosquitoes!
Club Finances: Treasurer Anna Salmon reports that after paying all expenses for last year that we have a surplus of $1,036.75 that has been carried over to this year. Major expenses included insurance, name tags, DJ for end of season dinner, equipment, software licencing fees etc. If you would like complete cost details please contact the club via email with your request. No compensation is paid directly or indirectly to the members of the Executive Committee for their volunteer work.
Fees for 2019. The fee is $25 and a mandatory name tag (if required) is $7. Drop in daily fee is $5. Fees will be collected at the courts in Bath from May 11 - May 18. After May 18 email the club to make payment arrangements. This year we will offer payment by e-transfer, cheque or exact cash. You will shortly receive a specific email regarding payment of fees.
Waiver Form: On the advice of our insurance company and Loyalist Township, each member must complete a waiver form. The form has been modified so that returning members next year will not have to submit the form. For this year, however, everybody needs to submit the form. The form can be found on our web site www.bathpickleball.ca
Volunteer Requirements: There will be a number of retirements at the end of the season from the Executive Committee. This Club does not work without volunteer involvement. In order to avoid current "volunteer burnout," we will be reaching out to members for assistance. If you are willing to step up now and get involved please speak to any of the Executive. The work is not onerous and is rewarding.
The Program: The program will be similar to last year - "social" play for the first 40/45 minutes, then optional competitive play at a number of designated courts. We intend to offer the following and when all the plans are finalized you will receive a detailed email:
Name Tags: Wearing your club name tag has two purposes. The first is that it is your membership card and somebody won't be walking up to you asking for a $5 daily fee. The second reason is that it promotes friendship - you know who you are playing with and against. The rumour that a $1 "voluntary" contribution to the club by players not wearing their name tag is unfounded (for the time being ?).
Weather Alerts: One hour prior to the scheduled start of play we will email out weather cancellations due to rain or high wind. We do our best, but the onus is on individual players to decide if they want to come and play. We will be looking for Bath resident volunteers to assist with this program.
Website: All information is on our website www.bathpickleball.ca . Take the time to read it and it will answer most if not all of your questions.
Schedule: Our scheduled times are as follows:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
Tuesday, Thursday evenings: 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The times are frequently extended if willing volunteers are available to do the closeup. It is not necessary to show up exactly at the start time as we use the paddle queuing system. Feel free to show up when convenient to you.
Official Start Date: Hopefully you have read all the previous information prior to this paragraph. Our opening day is Saturday, May 11 at 9:00 a.m. See you on the courts where we practise our motto of "fun .... friends ....fitness"

The objective is to allow players with different skill levels to compete and develop at a pace that meets their individual needs. A detailed email explaining the program will be sent out shortly. Mike is looking for a number of "volunteers" to assist with the program. He is pretty big - I wouldn't say no!
- Hopefully, an optional skills development program for members of all skill levels.

We are working with the Loyalist Golf and Country Club on dates (none confirmed yet) but it is looking like either September 28 or 29.
Club Subsidy: Depending on the Club's finances we subsidize a number of the social events. For our June 20 event, each member's meal purchase will be subsidized by $2. Order your food, and you will be charged $2 less than the menu says. The Club will look after the balance.
June 10,2018 Everyone And All Levels Welcome
There has been a little confusion with respect to our "Saturday Competitive at Your Level" program. The purpose of the program is to allow players with different skill levels to compete and develop at a pace that meets individual goals. To be clear, players at all levels from advanced to newbie are welcome.
Prearranged groups would place their names on the white board and the program coordinator will assign a court as one becomes available.
June 1, 2018 Call For Volunteers
The Bath PC will be having an Annual General Meeting (AGM) in August where all Executive Committee (EC) positions are up for election. A number of current members have served up to four years and wish to step down. Without willing volunteers, there can be no club! The responsibilities are personally satisfying and we encourage any interested member to step forward now. Interested volunteers will receive on the job training during the summer months and will be endorsed for the associated position at the AGM by the current Executive Committee. Please review the position descriptions below and respond to this email by expressing an interest in a particular position or any position. Remember that you will be trained in the position.
A summary of the positions and job responsibilities are as follows:
- President: The President shall preside over all Club meetings and be accountable for the overall operation of the Club.
- Vice President: The Vice President shall act as President in the absence of the President. The Vice President is responsible for liaison with the Loyalist Township Parks and Recreation Department for all matters including; winter indoor Pickleball, notices in Township Recreation Guide, lobbying for facility improvements and other duties to enhance the Club.
- Treasurer: The Treasurer is responsible for financial collection and disbursements. Duties include; record money received from membership and visitor fees, record expenses and disbursements, maintain receipts for all expenses, manage petty cash fund, produce income and expense spreadsheet as required, other duties that may be assigned.

May 14, 2018 Grand Opening Day + A Few Reminders
Great opening day with 53+ players showing up! Thanks to everybody for their cooperation and enthusiasm.
A couple of quick reminders:
Great opening day with 53+ players showing up! Thanks to everybody for their cooperation and enthusiasm.
A couple of quick reminders:
- Copies of previously sent emails are on the website under "Archived Emails"
- The parking at the St. John's Hall is private and we are not allowed to use it. You can park on the road or behind the fire hall on the grass. Make sure that your parking does not interfere with emergency vehicles access.
- There was some opening day confusion with how court play is managed. Here is how it is supposed to work. At the very first game on each court the first four players end the game and the losers sit down. The winners separate, remain on the court and two new players come on to play. At the end of that game and all subsequent games the players who have played two games in a row regardless if they have won or lost go off. Two new players come on. We do this because it most efficiently mixes the crowd. If it is still unclear please ask for additional clarification.
May 11, 2018 - "Club Coach" Announcement
The Bath Pickleball Club is pleased to announce the creation of a new position - “Club Coach”. This position is responsible for the training and skill development for all player levels within the Club. Specifically this would include new, intermediate and advanced player skills training. Training will be conducted on a scheduled basis focusing on skills specific for each level. For players interested in advanced tournament play, the Club Coach will work on an individual basis assessing and improving skills.
We are very fortunate in having a Club member who is highly skilled and regularly plays at an advanced level in Florida. The Executive Committee is very pleased to announce that Carl Walkinshaw has agreed to accept these responsibilities. Please feel free to talk to Carl about his plans and we will communicate additional details as they become available.
Thank you Carl !
May 10, 2018 - Saturday Morning - Competitive “Play at Your Level” Program
As you are aware there have been various attempts in the past two years to allow players with different skill levels to compete and develop at a pace which would meet individual goals. Last year, Saturday was designated as the "competitive day." We had mixed success. The requirement to meet these various needs still exists and in order to satisfy all club members the following plan is designed for Saturday morning play.
The courts would be divided into two areas, one for recreational/social play and the other for competitive/developmental play. The recreational area would function in the same manner as currently exists i.e. individual members show up, place their paddle in the top rack and wait for their turn to play with other members. The competitive level courts would accommodate foursomes with similar skill levels/interests. In other words a pre-arranged group of four would put their paddles into a different rack from the recreational players (the lower rack) and when a court becomes available they would go and play their game. Foursomes could consist of all newbies, or advanced skill level players or players preparing for tournaments.
The advantage of such a system would guarantee players from both within the club and outside of the club to compete at a desired level. Groups with similar interests would mingle to create different foursomes and players preparing for tournaments would be able to stay together as a team.
The division of courts would be driven by the requirement. There is no need to have empty courts with players waiting. Waiting teams/players would cycle through as we currently do. Nobody could exclusively "reserve" a court. When your group finishes the game, let other groups on to play.
Our club is centrally located between Belleville and Kingston and our facilities are the best. This system should be attractive to regional non members who would travel to Bath knowing they would be playing at their desired level and not put into random groups. Non-members could join the Club if desired or pay as you play with a rate of $3/day.
Mike Z and Annie B will be running this program.
Hope this works, looking forward to seeing you on the courts in May

May 9, 2018 - OPENING DAY INFORMATION
The Executive Committee of the Bath Pickleball Club is very pleased to welcome all returning and new members to our 2018 Outdoor Pickleball season. We try not to send long emails, but we have a lot of information to convey to you so accept our apology but read on!
This email is going to all indoor and outdoor members. If you are not joining for the summer outdoor season, then you will not receive emails after June 1.
Club Finances: Last year the club revenues were $4,173.89. Club expenses were $3,829.74 leaving a surplus of $344.15. Major expenses included insurance $1296, name tags $348.60, DJ for end of season dinner $350, equipment $424. If you would like complete cost details please contact the club via email with your request. No compensation is paid directly or indirectly to the members of the Executive Committee for their volunteer work.
Fees for 2018: The fees remain unchanged at $27 for new members (which includes a name tag) and $20 for members who have a club name tag. Drop in daily fee is $3. Fees will be collected at the courts in Bath from May 14 - May 21. After May 21 email the club to make payment arrangements.
Waiver Form: On the advice of our insurance company and Loyalist Township, each member who has not previously submitted a waiver form, must complete a waiver form. The form can be found on our web site www.bathpickleball.ca
Volunteer Requirements: There will be a number of retirements at the end of the season from the Executive Committee. If you are willing to get involved please speak to any of the Executive. The work is not onerous and is rewarding. There will be an Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elections in August. A detailed email will be sent to all members shortly explaining the various positions.
Social Events: We are planning a number of social events. As soon as details and dates are confirmed we will email the information to you. We are considering three visits by a food truck for "dine in the park", an August club fun tournament, an Annual General Meeting (AGM) that is required by our bylaws, and an end of season dinner dance in the fall. Funds surplus to our reserve requirements are used to subsidize some or all of these events.
Saturday "Competitive at Your Level" play: Mike and Annie are heading up this program for each Saturday. The objective is to allow players with different skill levels to compete and develop at a pace that meets their individual needs. A detailed email explaining the program will be sent out shortly. Saturday May 19 is the start date for this program.
Safety and Etiquette: All players and especially new players must review the information on our website regarding safety and etiquette. Injuries can result from playing pickleball so take the time and review the information and act accordingly.
Name Tags: Wearing your club name tag has two purposes. The first is that it is your membership card and somebody won't be walking up to you asking for a $3 daily fee. The second reason is that it promotes friendship - you know whom you are playing with and against. The rumor that a $1 "voluntary" contribution to the club by players not wearing their name is unfounded (for the time being ?).
Weather Alerts: One hour prior to the scheduled start of play we will email out weather cancellations due to rain or high wind. We do our best, but the onus is on individual players to decide if they want to come and play.
The times are frequently extended if willing volunteers are available to do the close up. It is not necessary to show up exactly at the start time as we use the paddle queuing system. Feel free to show up when convenient to you.
Official Start Date: Hopefully you have read all the previous information prior to this paragraph. Our opening day is Monday May 14 at 9:00 a.m. See you on the courts where we practise our motto of "fun .... friends ....fitness"
